Ballooning in August

Albany is having their balloon, art, music, and wine festival this weekend. Heading on a bright sunny morning to Corvallis one of the colorful hot air balloons was floating a short distance above us as we went over the Hwy 34/I-5 overpass. A pleasure to watch it float above all the traffic.

Elsie and Monowi Tavern Nebraska

I came across a longer article about Elsie Eiler who is now 91 years of age and owns the Monowi NE tavern. She is the only person in the town for population.

Monowi is where my mother and grandparents (and great-grandparents) lived in Nebraska. They began their journey to live in Oregon in 1934 due to the depression and dust storms. My great-grandparents and some of Gram's family is buried in the Alford Cemetery there. We were able to visit in 2022. We met Elsie and she cooked us one of her hamburgers. She knew some of my family especially the descendants of Olive, Gram's older sister.

There is an interesting
story in the Epoch Times. One has to subscribe, free, to read it. A picture I took of the tavern follows.

Diamond Lake North End View

A row of boats to go fishing out on beautiful Diamond Lake on a hot, clear summer day. It is a pleasant memory and I wish my Dad and Grandpa were coming back in from fishing while I waited.

Colorful Canoes

We took a drive south on Hwy 97 to Diamond Lake OR. It is about 20-25 miles from Crater Lake National Park. I spent a lot of time in my early years camping and fishing with family there. There is a resort, store, cabins, and restaurant at the north shore. It is a fair-sized lake for lots of boating and fishing. We used to do troll fishing there. This cluster of colorful canoes stood out along the shoreline.

Lead A Cat To Water

There is a saying that "one can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink." Maybe the same goes for cats — I couldn't make this cat drink either at the CAT party.

A CAT Party in Portland

My favorite fellow Executive Director in the animal world of organizations is Karen Green. Karen is stepping away from her leadership role to deal with care of family. The Cat Adoption Team group (CAT) will miss her. They put together a party up in Portland at a place on SW Capitol Hwy. It was great to see many of the former board members and officers from when I was on the board up until 2021. See some of my fellow board buddies - Claudine Wilson, Karen Green, me, and Sandi Martin.
